Mack Launches Online Petition on Energy Independence

Petition Urges Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to let Congress Vote on Energy Legislation

Fort Myers, FL – Saying that America can’t afford to be held hostage by the likes of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez and Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Congressman Connie Mack (R-FL) today launched an online petition so that the people of Southwest Florida can join in the growing call across the country for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to allow the House of Representatives to vote on legislation that will help make America energy independent.

Mack is a cosponsor of the American Energy Act (H.R. 6566).  This legislation offers a broad-based solution to help unlock the natural resources of our country and diversify our baseline energy sources.  Just as importantly, it would unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of America as we endeavor to research, develop, invest in, and commercialize new energy sources that will power America for generations to come.

Mack said:

“Families and businesses across Southwest Florida and beyond are struggling with high gas prices and rising costs of other goods and services.  But instead of allowing the People’s House to do the people’s business, Speaker Pelosi has instead focused much of Congress’ time on naming post offices, honoring athletic accomplishments, and countless other trivial matters.

“Solving America’s energy crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our generation, and the decision by Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues to continue to ignore it is a total failure of leadership.

“The people of Southwest Florida, like people everywhere, are outraged. And they should be.  They want their voices to be heard, and they want Speaker Pelosi to take action.

“That’s why I’ve created the ‘Energy Independence Now’ petition online at www.conniemack.com. I urge the people of Southwest Florida to go to my website and to sign this petition urging Speaker Pelosi to allow the House of Representatives to vote on energy legislation.”
